About the Venue

Bigland Hall Equine

Bigland Hall Equine Group is nestled in the south Lake District in the beautiful countryside of the National Park. The stables are located in the old walled garden that formed part of Bigland Hall Estate.

It was transformed into a riding centre in the 1970s but fell into disarray in the 1990s. Me and my family, Sheelagh and Mike Myers took on the facility in 2007 and embarked on the long journey to transform it into the bustling stable yard it is now.

The business and facilities has grown and adapted greatly since its start in 2007 and is now run by Cumbria Rural Academy CIC. This company is dedicated to working with young people and vulnerable adults to help them find new opportunities and give them skills and qualifications for the future. I have worked within the company since when my family took it on and this was the start of my career and passion for horses. I still dedicate some of my time to supporting this endeavour alongside Harness Change Ltd.

The family ethos of development and giving opportunities doesn’t stop at the students and clients, it is there with the horses too. The stables have over 35 horses, a lot of which have been embraced into the family because they have had behavioural issues or needed a new home. There are elderly ones that have been with my parents since their first riding stables 25years ago, and young ones that have just arrived. This means we truly have a horse for every job. We use a selection of these horses in Harness Change who have the right skill set and personalities to guide you through your learning journey.

The facilities at the centre include:
• Indoor Arena
• Outdoor Arena
• Classroom
• Lounge with refreshment facilities
• Toilet Block and showers
